A developer of residential accommodation for older people has published a consultation proposal in relation to the Mary Gee Houses Site off Ratcliffe Road.
The consultation can be found at: https://adlington.co.uk/ratclifferoad-consultation/
The steering group will be discussing this at the next meeting on 4th February. Please let us know of any views, but also respond to the consultation as local residents.
Although I am of the age group which would benefit from such a development, this is NOT what our community needs. We should be striving to create a community where ALL age groups are represented. What we need on the Mary Gee site is a development of small, modern, terraced-style housing suitable for young peopla as starter homes. I think it may be fair to say that, because of availablity of time and long-term residency in Knighton, your committees may be dominated by an older generation. It is therefore very much incumbent on you to take the greatest care that the needs of the younger generation who, after all will be the living future for Knighton, are given a very high priority, to protect you from accusations of understandable bias. I don’t like the fact that so much recent development in Knighton has been posh houses and even ‘gated’ communities. This is NOT in tune with the little houses of the old village or the oldest part of South Knighton.
Knighton Forum will be holding a public meeting on Monday 18th February, with a talk on Leicester flood risk management. We will also ask the members attending for their views on some of our emerging draft planning policies in the context of this proposed development at the Mary Gee houses site.
Personally I share your views about providing affordable accommodation for all age groups, which should be for both rent and purchase.
